Edit Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 MP4 and AVCHD in FCP X and FCP 7
Can't Import 4k XAVC S files from Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 into Final Cut Pro X or FCP 7 - Solution Here. Read On !
Panasonic's FZ-series have long been some of my favorite superzooms and the FZ300 has raised the bar with improved autofocus performance and 4K videos and photos. While not a bargain, on paper it appears to be a great still and video camera for the traveler. Panasonic dropped in a new image processor to bring 4K video (3,840x2,160 at 30 or 24 frames per second) in MP4 format in addition to 1080p at 60 frames per second in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4/H.264) formats with full-time autofocus.
However, We usually saw Final Cut Pro users encounter importing issues when attempting to edit Lumix DMC-FZ300 4K MP4 and 1080P AVCHD in Final Cut Pro (FCP 7, FCP X).
Question:
"Has anyone worked with media from the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 camera. Looking for some tips regarding post workflow and getting the media into FCP X. Import XML isn't working, it asks for a navigational file and gives us an error. I have h264/mpeg4 of the footage which I'd rather not use since its a compressed codec that doesn't always get along with FCP X."
The basic reason why we can't work Panasonic Lumix FZ300 footage with Final Cut Pro is that 4K files are too big to import, and is not widely supported. To make the Panasonic FZ300 4K MP4 and 1080P AVCHD recordings compatible with FCP X and FCP 7, the easy workaround is to convert Panasonic FZ300 video to ProRes codec, which Final Cut Pro works best with.
